The ISS offers this Rising Star Fellowship for two pathologists in 2025 to develop their expertise in musculoskeletal (MSK) pathology by visiting one (preferably) or two centres of excellence for a maximum period of up to two weeks.
The purpose of the Pathology Fellowship is to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of pathologists whose focus of clinical work, research and education involves skeletal disease such as primary bone tumours, skeletal dysplasia, and metabolic disease.They may also wish to extend their experience beyond pathology and spend time in radiology, molecular pathology and surgery.
The Fellowship will provide opportunities to meet experts in the field and gain insight into different ways of practicing MSK pathology in other centres.
Eligibility Criteria
• Open to ISS and non-ISS members
• Three and not more than 10 years’ experience in MSK pathology
• Clinical experience and ideally also exposure to research and/or teaching
• Evidence that the applicant has the opportunity / facility to pursue MSK pathology for the foreseeable future.
• Currently working in a different country from their selected institution
• Willingness to give a brief presentation at the Annual Meeting of the ISS and produce a short report about the travel experience for Skeletal Radiology Journal after the program.

Letter of recommendation
• From an ISS member, a representative of your national MSK society or from a Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology National/International society.
The inaugural visiting Rising Star Fellowship could include visits to one (preferable) or two universities and or Hospitals. If the Fellow selects one institution the maximum time they can spend there is 1.5 weeks. If the Fellow selects to visit two institutions, the total fellowship should not be longer than two weeks.
Deadline for submission of application: March 31st, 2025
The successful candidates will be informed by April 30th, 2025
Date for Fellowships: to be organized with host institution at mutually convenient date.
Award to contribute to travel (premium economy for long haul flights), accommodation and subsidence. Accommodation to be arranged by Fellow.
